I got back from a trip to Korea last week. I was there for a little over two weeks. Then I stayed with my friend who has been teaching English there since June. I had been to Korea once before 2 years ago. I liked it much better this time.
One really annoying thing during my stay... why do Christian Koreans try to shove their religion down my (and presumably everyone else's) throat? And being an atheist makes it even more annoying.
Another thing that was kind of funny.... Some people want to talk to me. But they want to talk in Korean, which is fine, cause we are in Korea. But, I only know a couple words in Korean, so anything beyond telling them I am American, I cannot understand. Now what is funny is that a few people who wanted to talk to me kept talking to me even though it was probably pretty clear I don't understand a word they're saying. No matter how many times they repeat themselves, how they rephrase it, or how loudly they say it, I will not understand. These are random strangers.
Looking back at my previous post in Sept. I see that I was last talking about not getting a reply from the recruiter. I emailed someone and asked if they got my resume. Someone else got back to me and said they wanted to schedule an assessment on the phone, to ask some general questions, and when I can start, if I have a preference about where I go, etc. It's just basic questions, right? The assessment ended with the woman telling me they would match me with schools that fit my requirements and get back to me. I asked when she thought that would be. She doesn't know. She has absolutely no idea. That didn't leave me feeling too confident. I must have said something really wrong cause I never heard back from them. Since I was too lazy to talk to any other recruiters before my trip I wasn't able to schedule any interviews for while I was in Korea. But I enjoyed my trip, so fuck it.
